香炉，是“香道”必备的器具，也是华人民俗、宗教、祭祀活动中必不可少的供具。历代使用的香器包含博山炉、手炉、香斗、卧炉、香筒等不同形制的香炉，以及熏球、香插、香盘、香盒、香夹、香铲、香匙、香筒及香囊等配套器具，使用的质料主要包括铜、陶瓷、金银、竹木器、珐琅及玉石等。其用途亦有多种，或熏衣、或陈设、或敬神供佛。形状上常见为方形或圆形，方形的香炉一般有四足；圆形的香炉，都有三足，一足在前，两足在后放置。除了熏衣、陈设、敬神供佛，古代文人雅士也喜好在读书、写字的书房内，焚上一炷香，营造“红袖添香夜读书”的意境。因此，早在汉代以前就出现陶、瓷、铜、铁、瓦为材料制成的香炉。元末明初随着铜器铸造业的迅速发展，原先其它材料的香炉，逐渐被铜香炉所取代，明代宣德年间是铜香炉制作的巅峰阶段。明代宣德皇帝（朱棣之孙）在位时，为满足玩赏香炉的嗜好，特下令从暹罗国进口一批红铜，责成宫廷御匠吕震和工部侍郎吴邦佐，参照皇府内藏的柴窑、汝窑、官窑、哥窑、钧窑、定窑名瓷器的款式，及《宣和博古图录》《考古图》等史籍，设计和监制香炉。

近期我公司有幸征集到一件大明宣德款 铜制鎏金祥云龙耳香炉，典藏规格为：口径14.7cm，高11cm。本次藏品以铜铸成，底书“大明宣德年制”款，其广口，短颈，由炉身、兽形炉耳、炉足三部分构成，造型规整，厚重敦实，炉身带有鎏金盘龙祥云纹饰，盘龙气势凶猛，在祥云的衬托下极富动感。整器雕工精细，繁密而有条不紊，给人庄重肃穆的气势。其内腔亦有欣赏价值，映射出匠心和时代的审美情趣。炉匠更注重内腔的造型设计，尤其想表达炉腔的纵深感，横向的纵深感以弧线大来体现，竖向的纵深感以炉腔深来表达；炉壁不等厚，上下厚，中间薄；炉口壁直，向内腔过度有棱角；内腔底低；内腔底面径小；内腔的最凸处低于外形的最凸处。其炉身形制规整，敦厚之中不失灵巧精致，作为书房陈设颇为雅致。焚香其内，数百年历史的厚重感随香外溢。它尽显铜炉精纯美质，铜质精良，入手沉甸。
